Paramedics reveal the shocking abuse they face on the job. Despite their military and security backgrounds, nothing prepared them for this level of violence.

Most of these incidents were verbal, but physical assaults are also alarming. In the last year alone, there were 308 aggressive behaviors reported. It’s a tough situation for those just trying to help.
Jason Killens, the AACE chair, expressed deep concern. He said the violence against ambulance staff is increasing. This behavior affects the mental health of those who are just doing their jobs.
Two paramedics, Ian Jones and Gareth Casey, shared their own experiences. They were assaulted while treating a patient who later urinated in the ambulance. Ian, a former RAF firefighter, had to press the panic button for help.
Gareth, who worked in security before, said he’s faced more assaults as a paramedic than ever before. The threats can be more shocking than the punches. He even had to undergo blood tests after being bitten on the job.
Anna Parry from AACE highlighted the serious impact of this violence. Many ambulance workers feel unsafe every time they start a shift. This can lead to burnout and even leaving the profession. It’s a tough reality for those who dedicate their lives to saving others.
