Nathan Phillips, a devoted father from Brynamman, faces a tough battle with brain cancer just before Christmas, leaving his family in shock.

Brynamman: A young dad named Nathan Phillips just got some heartbreaking news. He was diagnosed with brain cancer just days before Christmas. Up until then, life was pretty good for him. He had a lovely family, two awesome boys, and was even managing his local football team, Bryn Rovers.
But everything changed last December when Nathan, who’s 35, got the news that no one wants to hear. It all started with headaches and blurry vision while he was at football games back in September. After a trip to the hospital and a biopsy, he found out he had grade four brain cancer.
Nathan’s younger brother, Shaun, shared how strong Nathan has been through all this. He said Nathan is a real rock for the family. Shaun described him as a brilliant character who always tells it like it is. Nathan loves football and is a big Spurs fan, which makes this whole situation even tougher.
Both brothers are huge football fans and recently took on managing the under-8 team for Bryn Rovers. Shaun mentioned that while the family has had their sad moments, Nathan has stayed positive. It’s inspiring to see how he’s handling everything.
Shaun said, “He’s been our rock. We get upset, but he’s been so strong and positive.” The support from the community has been incredible, with many people reaching out to send their love and encouragement.
Nathan has two young sons, Mason and Tommie, and his wife, Laura, is a care worker. They’re all trying to keep spirits high, but it’s been tough. Shaun explained that the boys are too young to fully understand why their dad is in the hospital, which makes it even harder for Laura.
With Nathan unable to work and Laura taking time off to care for him, money has become tight. Shaun set up a GoFundMe to help cover their expenses while Nathan focuses on his health. The community has really stepped up, raising nearly £730 at a Christmas event for Nathan.
Shaun expressed his gratitude, saying the support has been “unreal.” The Bryn Rovers club organized a surprise Christmas party for Nathan, and he was overwhelmed by the love and support from everyone. It’s heartwarming to see how people come together in tough times.
He added, “A massive thank you to everyone for their kind words and support. It means the world to us.”
